When Can I Use an Application Rate Module?

The Application Rate Module is used with Ag Leader’s displays to record coverage maps or to serial control another display. When recording coverage maps, the Application Rate Module produces either a coverage or an as-applied map. Examples of these are recording area where you planted certain varieties or recording area and rates of certain liquid or granular application products.

Serial Control

When using the Application Rate Module for serial control, the system is simply relaying a target rate from the Ag Leader display to the display controlling the machine. This is useful for displays that do not have the ability to load in prescription maps to do variable rate control or log coverage maps.

With the Application Rate Module you can load a prescription map or flat rate on to the Ag Leader display, and it will relay the target rate to the second display. The second display receives the rate and controls the machine appropriately. The Ag Leader display then uses that actual rate to create an as-applied map. Autoswath does not function with serial control. The COMM port on the Application Rate Module is used when serial controlling another display.

Implement Switch

The first way is using an Implement switch. You can mount the implement switch on your implement to signal the display when it is up in the air (telling it not to log) and signal it when it is down in the ground (telling it to log). Autoswath does not function in this situation. It will log overlap anywhere the implement covers unless the implement switch is in the up position. The switch can log area for multiple products at once in this situation.The AUX port of the Application Rate Module is used when logging with an implement switch.

Flow Meter or Encoder

The second way is using a flow meter or an encoder. The system can tee into certain flow meters or encoders to indicate when to log rate and coverage. Anytime it sees flow from the flow meter or encoder it will log coverage and record the rate it saw at that point. The calibration number that is entered for the setup is “pulses/unit.” Autoswath does not function in this situation. The AUX port of the Application Rate Module is used when logging with a flow meter.

     A: No, the Application Rate Module can only utilize one input. In this case, it will be operating the serial controlled display, and cannot use the implement switch input.

     A: No, the Application Rate Module can only utilize one input. In this case, it will be operating the serial controlled display, and cannot use the rate sensor input.

Q: Can I log coverage for a variety with an implement switch and log flow for a liquid product with a flow meter at the same time?

     A: No, the Application Rate Module can only utilize one input. In this case, it will be using the implement switch for coverage logging, and cannot use the flow meter input.

Q: Can two Application Rate Modules be used at the same time?

     A: No, only one module will be recognized by the displays operating configuration.

Q: Can a SmartReport be created when using an Application Rate Module to log flow?

     A: Yes, a SmartReport can be created if a "Flow Meter" is setup as a product controller in the application configuration.
