Creating a Backup

  1. Open the project you wish to create a backup of
  2. Navigate to Services and select Backup/Restore Project(s)
  3. Select the option to Backup Project Data Now
  4. Select the project(s) you wish to back up from the list of available projects and add them over to the column on the right side.
    • The project you are currently in will have a green circle in front of the name.
  5. Add a custom name for the backup (ex. January 2017 or Post Harvest 2016)
  6. Click OK and the backup process will start.
  7. After the backup is complete the backup will be saved to the SMS Backup folder or a specified custom location

Creating a Scheduled Backup

  1. Navigate to Services and Backup/Restore Project(s) or Backup/Restore Project(s) from the SMS Projects screen
  2. Select Schedule a Backup of Your Project Data
  3. Users have two backup options:
    1. Backup All Projects: SMS will back up all projects every time the scheduled backup runs
    2. Backup Individual Projects: SMS only backs up projects that have had changes made since the last scheduled backup.
  4.  Backups can be created Daily, Weekly, or Monthly.
  5. Users can select what time and what day the backup is ran. If backing up monthly, the user can choose which week the backup is run.
  6.  Enter the Username and Password for the Windows Account.
  7. Click OK.
  8.  Close SMS when finished to allow the backup to be ran

Restoring a Backup

  1. Navigate to Services and Backup/Restore Project(s) or Backup/Restore Project(s) from the SMS Projects screen
  2. Select Restore Project Data
  3. Navigate to the backup you wish to restore. The default location is the SMS Backup folder (C:\Users\XXX \Documents\Ag Leader Technology\SMS\Backup), otherwise choose the custom location where backups are being stored. Click Load.
  4. All available projects will appear in the project list. Use the check boxes to select which project(s) to restore. Click OK. If you wish to replace ALL existing projects data with the backup file be sure to select Replace ALL existing data/projects. *Note that checking this box will clear ALL of the projects from SMS and replace them with the backup that is being restored.
  5. The backup restore process will start
  6. After the restore process is complete, the management tree will display the data from the backup file.
